Asbestos Abatement and Awareness Worker Training Courses Launched in BC

British Columbia Asbestos Landscape

With asbestos containing materials still present in many BC buildings, having properly trained, knowledgeable and certified workers on sites where asbestos could be disturb is becoming more important.  WorkSafe BC has significantly increased their efforts to enforce proper removal procedures and ensure employers protect workers who may be exposed to asbestos exposure related health effects.

Having workers properly educated and trained in asbestos techniques is important in today’s regulatory landscape in British Columbia. There are several regulations and guidelines that require employers to have the proper knowledge, skills and management plans to perform safe asbestos abatement work.

PHH ARC Asbestos Training Solutions

PHH ARC, as part of their Hazardous Materials Management Division, has developed 2  training courses that are now available to companies and workers in British Columbia that will educate and train students on how to work in various situations with Asbestos containing materials.

Our courses are modular in nature and covers topics such as asbestos uses, health effects, applicable legislation, identification of suspect materials, key roles and responsibilities, worker protection control methods, documentation requirements and much more.

Our first course: BC Asbestos & Other Hazardous Materials Awareness

This course is meant as an educational presentation and an introduction to Asbestos and other Hazardous Materials and how applicable BC regulations govern how asbestos building products are handled in the province. There is only a classroom component to this half day presentation. It is ideal for managers, employers, contractors and other stakeholders that are responsible for or work around projects where asbestos is present but not directly handling the removal or working in containments.

Our second course is a 16 hour course: BC Asbestos Abatement Worker Training Course – Moderate Risk

PHH ARC’s Hazardous Materials Management division developed this course to further educate workers who may be working with moderate risk asbestos removal. There are two components to this training course, one day classroom and theory and one day hands on exercises. There is an exam that follows and certificates are issued upon successful completion.

This course will give students who complete the 2 day course an in depth understanding of Asbestos in building materials, regulations, equipment use and containment techniques and how to perform safe work abatement procedures.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Taking this course does not fully certify you to conduct abatement work. For further details about the next processes needed to be fully certified after this course please read the course description guidelines.
